We’re really excited to announce our summer schedule of parties for this year. Parties take place in our native Glasgow and adopted hometown of London and include a wealth of talent across both cities. Dates and links below.

There will be one or two special announcements along the way, so keep an eye for updates on our Facebook page.

Studio Barnhus ALL NIGHT!

We’re very much looking forward to hosting two label showcases from one of our favourite labels to emerge in the past year or so. The STUDIO BARNHUS label has been responsible for some wonderful releases by the likes of Usio, Wesley Matsell, not to mention output by label heads Kornél Kovács, Petter and Axel Boman.

All three will play all night in at London’s Dance Tunnel and Glasgow’s Saint Judes in June – details and ticket links below:

Friday 7th June – STUDIO BARNHUS – Dance Tunnel, Dalston, London – Tickets

Saturday 8th June – STUDIO BARNHUS – Saint Judes, Glasgow – Tickets

They play all night, each night in intimate settings. Only a fool would miss out.

Like many artists on our favourite Cómeme label, Philipp Gorbachev produces something more than just functional nightclub music. Combining elements of EBM, Industrial, Italo the Russian conjures music both at once familiar and unique, hardly surprising that he caught the attention of Rebolledo and Mr Aguayo.

Most should have heard of Golden Teacher – at least by name – now. Glasgow has never been short of great bands and this one is no exception. Their release on Optimo Music is a masterpiece and we were suitably impressed with their stripped back appearance at our Trevor Jackson / Veronica Vasicka party in February.

Philipp will then hop on the train to London where he’ll perform at Birthdays with Timothy J. Fairplay. Andrew Weatherall’s studio engineer and The Asphodells partner-in-crime, Timothy has recently been making a name for his own productions of late, and quite rightly so! Releasing some belters on the likes of Andy Blake’s World Unknown and Emotional Response, he also the drummer in the sadly no more Battant.

Details and tickets for each are available here:

H&P presents Veronica Vasicka & Trevor Jackson

Friday 15th February: Bar A Bar, London – Tickets

Saturday 16th February: La Cheetah, Glasgow – Tickets

We invite you to take a step back into the future as we pair two of our favourite previous guests together, in the form of Veronica Vasicka and Trevor Jackson.

Veronica’s Minimal Wave label has been going from strength to strength over the past few years reissuing releases from artists such as Deux, Felix Kubin and In Trance 95. She has also releases two compilations; The Hidden Tapes and Minimal Waves Tapes Vol. 2, the latter in conjunction with Stones Throw. This heavy release schedule has been matched by her touring schedule with demand for her DJ’ing ability taking her across the world and back to her native New York several times a year.

One of our favourite DJ’s, Trevor Jackson also released a compilation recently in the form of his Metal Dance comp for Strut which presented the best in ‘Industrial, Post Punk, EBM, Classics & Rarities 80 – 88′, it rightly topped the end of year charts last year, including the coveted top spot on Resident Advisor. After delivering two great sets for us at Plastic People in 2012, we look forward to having him back.

Thanks to those who made it down to our massive Daphni launch a few weeks ago. We’re still buzzing from the experience and will certainly be back at Bussey in 2013! Next up, we return with something a little bit different in the form of:
Charanjit Singh performing his now infamous Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat LP – Live in the UK for the first time!
Originally made in 1982 by a Bollywood soundtrack composer Singh, intending to capitalise on the disco phenomenon with a combination of centuries-old classical Indian Ragas set to a disco backing. To achieve this Charanjit used a prototypical acid set-up of Roland TB303 bass melody sequencer and TR808 drum computer together with a Jupiter-8 keyboard.
Basically creating a sound which mirrored, and more importantly, pre-dated the first acid house record – Phuture’s ‘Acid Track’ by five years, and even preceded Chip E’s ‘Jack Trax’ in 1985. It’s no throw-away novelty record either, instead capturing the hypnotic potential of acid music in the most ornate and scarily prescient fashion, making explicit the similarities of infinitely arpeggiated bass sequences and pure electronic pulses that would soundtrack dancefloors for the next 30 odd years.
Having recently been reissued, rumours flew abound pointing at a hoax from Aphex Twin or Ceephax, but a hoax it was not. Still a regular performer in India, Charanjit will play with a full live set up – comprising of the original gear he recorded the albums with: a Roland TB-303 bass synth, TR-808 drum machine, and a Jupiter-8 keyboard synth.
This is a chance to experience a rare piece of electronic music history in the UK. Check out a compelling (short) documentary here.
Support comes from Peckham’s finest, the mighty Andy Blake and his discerning box of records.
All early birds have gone, but you can grab a full priced ticket over at Resident Advisor.
Charanjit also plays our Highlife party at La Cheetah with Auntie Flo and Esa in support. Details here.

The director was shot once again by the award-winning Ling Lee and featured a bunch of lively friends, a random stag-party and Esa is his Witchdoctor guise!

Enjoy.

Just as the sunshine finally arrives, we’re very pleased to announce that Auntie Flo‘s delightful debut album, Future Rhythm Machine is now available to one and all. We think it’s one of the best things we’ve heard in a very long time – in fact it was the whole reason behind us starting the H&P label, after hearing an earlier incarnation nearly 2 years ago! Since then, we’ve recruited the talents of sultry Chilean, Mamacita and the spritely South African, Esa (the fastest bongo player in Scotland).

Having listened to it more than anyone else has at this present moment in time, we still feel the same way and expect to do so for an even longer time to come.

But then we would say that.

Here’s what others have had to say so far:

“gorgeous… it’s bound to tickle your pleasure centers, strike you dumb and move your feet all at the same time.” 4/5 - Resident Advisor
Love it all. ‘La Samaria’ is so beautiful. It should be a hit single in a just world. 10/10.” - JD Twitch, Optimo
5/5 - Joe MuggsQ Magazine
17/20 - Crack Magazine

Plus early approval and recommendations from the likes of MixmagJunoBoomkat and Bleep amongst others.

You can now buy Future Rhythm Machine from your local record or download emporium of choice now and we hope you enjoy listening to it at home, in the club or on the move as much as we do. Invest your wages wisely!
